Paige Wilkinson is a materials-minded artist who explores the intersection of glass art and handmade paper through her book arts practice. Her work investigates the transformative power of light in revealing hidden worlds, discovering striking parallels between glass and paper when held up to light—revealing either the dynamic interplay of transparency and opacity in glass or the delicate constellation of fibers in paper. Her practice includes paper windows, glass books, and anthotype prints on handmade paper using locally harvested materials.
Paige is an MFA candidate at UICB and graduated from The University of Iowa with a BA in Religious Studies and Museum Studies and an MA in Library and Information Sciences and Special Collections. Paige works in collections care at the university library and the State Historical Society of Iowa. She lives in Solon, IA, with her partner and constant collaborator, Dan, and their three dogs and many plants.
I want my work to feel like a portal, reclaiming the magic of the word. With that, I can’t stop thinking about glass/paper, light/shadow, windows/doors, and bridges/tunnels. To me, the book is a portal, and every sheet of paper is a window.
