Congratulations to MFA candidates Shoko Nakamura and Krista Narcisso! They were awarded Caxton Club Grants for the 2018-2019 application cycle.

Shoko Nakamura uses everyday things, such as doughnuts, tulips, sandwiches, and cats as subjects for her artist's books. For her thesis project, she is making books in the shape of a button-down collared shirt that reflects her interpretation of the book. She explores the potential of book arts by using a shirt as the book medium and will make a series of "shirt books."

Krista Narcisso is creating an artist's book entitled On Past the Farthest Point of Your Vision, which depicts the disorienting vastness of the Midwestern landscape. The horizontal format and images in the book were inspired by an 18 hour drive from Connecticut to Iowa, when she was fixated on how far into the distance she was able to see. Poems created through erasure of John Frederick Lazell’s 1909 book, Some Summer Days in Iowa, mirror environmental change and call attention to seasonal change.
