During the recent CBAA Annual Conference held in Philadelphia, PA (January 4-6, 2018), two UICB MFA candidates were recognized at the CBAA Juried Member Exhibition. Second-year students Colleen Lawrence and Suzanne Glémot’s works were selected by jurors as two out of three student-category awards. The selected works were "Toward a History of the Corallines" (2017) by Colleen Lawrence and "This Sea Right Here" (2017) by Suzanne Glemot. This year’s Juried Member exhibition was titled "Fertile Ground: Artists Respond to a Collective Geography." Participating artists reflected and responded to an individual work selected from a collection within an institution of their choice. The premise of this exhibition was for artists to create a responsive work in dialogue with their own artistic voice. Artists were also encouraged to reconsider the definition of geography/terrain through the lens of a book artist surveying and excavating a collection in order to craft a work addressing landscape as content. Exhibition Jurors were John Caperton, Jensen Bryan Curator at The Print Center in Philadelphia, PA, and Mark Dimunation, Chief of the Rare Book and Special Collections Division, Library of Congress. Congratulations Colleen and Suzanne!
