Learn more about this recently-opened exhibition in the Main Library Gallery, curated by Julie Leonard, professor in the University of Iowa Center for the Book, and Kalmia Strong, adjunct faculty in the University of Iowa Center for the Book and the program director at Public Space One.

Rising Together | Protest in Print features artist books, prints, and zines with social justice themes drawn from the University of Iowa Special Collections and the College Book Art Association (CBAA) juried traveling exhibition Rising Together.

Through contemporary and historical examples, the exhibit demonstrates how artist books, zines, and prints give activism a visual voice and can serve as powerful agents in effecting positive social change on issues encompassing power, politics, war, immigration, the environment and more. Featured items include a wide range of editioned or one-of-a-kind book art and print activity–editioned artist books, sculptural bookworks, altered books, chapbooks, broadsides, protest signs, zines.

In addition to holdings in the UI Special Collections, 31 contemporary artists, presses and collectives are represented in the CBAA portion of the show.
