On Friday, Nov. 11, University of Iowa Center for the Book paper making specialist Nick Cladis will host the Center's annual kozo harvest at the Oakdale Paper Research Facility! We need all hands on deck for this event, as we have a field of kozo to harvest, steam, and peel. You'll learn a lot about processing bark fibers in traditional ways.
We will be harvesting in the morning, from 9:30 a.m., and will then move to the studio to steam the bark and peel the bark before hanging them in bundles on rope. We will finish up at 4:30 p.m.
There will be a lunch break from around noon to 1ish. Caffeine will be provided, as well as some Japanese snacks.
This will be a unique opportunity to work with paper making fibers directly at their source! Please feel free to join us any time between 9:30 and 4:30. We hope to see you there!
To find the Oakdale Paper Research Facility, type the address (2280 Crosspark Rd.) into Google Maps. When you reach the facility, you will find a low brick building with a sign that says "UICB Paper Facility."
