The UICB Alumni Residency provides studio access for projects to graduates of the UICB MFA or Certificate Programs. Typically, the residency period will run from May 20- August 10, or December 26-January 10. The residency will be scheduled to avoid conflict with current MFA students and UICB classes. Studio demands such as current student use, summer courses, and equipment maintenance will also be taken into account when determining the selection of resident artists.

Selected artists are expected to work independently. Residents must observe all current UICB studio use and clean up policies. There is no charge for studio use. Materials will not be provided beyond basic shop materials (solvent, ink, purified water, adhesives, etc.). As available, studio storage in the form of shelves and flat file space will be provided. There is no room, board, travel allotment, or materials stipend attached to this residency.

Residents will be asked to provide photographic documentation of the completed project. When possible, there will be an opportunity for residents to give an artist talk and/or exhibit work in the K.K. Merker Gallery.

To apply:
Applicants please submit:

  •  proposal detailing the project to be completed (250-400 words)
  •  project timeline describing studio use and equipment needs, include desired dates
  •  current resume or CV (no more than 2 pages)
  •  artist’s statement
  •  optional: up to 10 images of work, with an image list. Images should be no larger than 1500 pixels either direction, max 1 MB each.
Images should be grouped as a single PDF file.

Judging criteria will include quality of proposal, demonstrated need of facilities, appropriateness to UICB studios, availability of requested studio spaces, and applicant’s record of conscientious studio use.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, beginning in October of each year. Applicants will be notified no later than March 15 for summer residencies, and November 15 for winter residencies.
