MFA Thesis Exhibit Debuting Kimberly Obee and Wishing Flower Press and Bindery
Sunday, April 10, 2022 - 9:00am to Saturday, April 16, 2022 - 5:00pm

 K. K. Merker Gallery, Ground Floor, North Hall - UI Center for the Book

Kimberly Obee debuts Wishing Flower Press & Bindery, in conjunction with her MFA thesis research. Kimberly developed a line of letterpress goods that were hand printed exclusively on the Chandler & Price platen press. Her greeting card line is inspired by her interest in wildflowers, the idea of sending correspondence via paper plane and the joy she feels whenever she sees a very large, fat cat. She also created a suite of blank, jotter notebooks influenced by her own obsession of carrying a sketchbook wherever she goes. These letterpress printed books are thoughtfully designed to be durable and attractive travel companions. Lastly, her fascination with paper engineering and paper toys lead to the creation of her Thaumatrope line, spinning optical illusion toys intended to surprise and delight. All these products are steppingstones as she prepares to open and operate her small business, printshop and bindery.

Closing reception on Friday, April 15th from 4pm - 6pm in the K. K. Merker Gallery.
